First Harvest
of 2009
With a full moon
raging and, an absolutely abundant amount of various food sources to
choose from due to the downed timber from the ice storm, the 2009 early
season bow hunt could have not started any slower. With very few
sightings throughout the first 4 days of the hunt, both our hunters
and us guides were getting very frustrated. Then finally on the last
night of the hunt, deer finally started to move. With nearly a dozen
bucks sighted on the last evening of the hunt, Tom West of Florida took
this velvet 9 pointer from a clover field food plot. Tom saw several
bucks including a buck he was sure would go 160 class.

New Food
Plots net interesting results
While viewing a recently planted food plot, co-owner and guide Ken Willis
was amazed that this doe and fawn feed within 40 yards of him as he
watched from his ATV. Ken had noticed the 2 in another food plot as
he drove in and then amazingly they fed right into the plot with
him. You can view more of the photos

2009
Spring Sheds
2009 was an interesting year for shed hunting
here at Buck Country Outfitters. The ice storm from earlier this
year has changed the landscape here. A simple walk in the woods is
more like a jungle adventure in many of our areas. We have been
working hard to clear our access road and tree stand trails. The
recovery effort is ongoing and it really cut into our shed hunting time
and made finding them very difficult. We have found several nice
ones and the good news is that during our turkey season, we saw a great
deal more deer than in the past. An unusually we spring has
made for great antler growth. How does the old saying go "it
takes water to grow horns" well if true, we are going to grow some
monsters this year.
Be sure to check out our trail cam pics to see how the antler growth is
coming along.
Buck Country
Guide Makes
National Magazine
in 2009
Once again Buck Country Guide Patrick Willis has been featured in a
National Hunting
magazine. Field and Stream will be featuring some tips from Patrick
in an upcoming August issue. This is the 4th time Patrick has been called
on by the magazine to provide insight and strategies for hunting mature
whitetails. Keep your eye out for the issue when it hits the shelves
summer 2009.
Mossy

Visits
Buck
Country
Buck Country Outfitters co-owner Pat Willis along with wife Pam and sons
Josh and Zach (Z) recently got a chance to step in front of the famed camo
cameras with the staff of Mossy
Oak's Hunting the Country. Mossy Oak field staff member Stephen
Bush visited with BCO during our youth turkey hunt in 2008. This
footage along with additional footage shot by our good friend Mitch Ensor
will be the feature story for the show. We have had many TV shows
visit with us and the team from Mossy Oak is by far the cream of the crop.
Total professionals. Thanks guys.

Photos from Buck

2009 is shaping to be a very promising year. The ice storm has made
our work very difficult but an usually cool summer with lots of rain is
producing some great looking antlers. We have just started
putting our cameras out and they are beginning to take some great pics.

to view more trail cam photos. The buck to the right was
photographed in a clover plot at the Little Gap food plot. There
were 4 bucks in that bachelor group and 2 have very promising
growth. We will be posting new pics over the coming weeks as they
come in. By mid August we will be seeing more defined growth for the
coming season. Be sure to check back soon for the latest
updates.
